October 4, 2018 Get Set for a 4WD Adventure this Spring

Australia has the kind of scenery that is made for adventure. Owning a 4WD gives you the perfect excuse to get out there and see it...and spring is the perfect time. Wherever you’re heading, it’s important that you prepare properly, as the last thing you want is to end up stranded.

Whether you want to tackle a serious trek, or just escape to an isolated beach for a weekend, Australia is blessed with some of the best off-road driving tracks in the world.

With the right 4WD and equipment, you’ve got the golden key to stunning beaches, bush and outback.

The first thing you should do is check the terrain that you will be navigating. You should also consult your owner’s manual to reassure yourself of your 4WD’s capabilities.

If you’re a beginner, you might like to try a relatively easy track like those in the Southern Highlands of NSW. While the “Red Arm Fire Trail” is known as a relatively easy track, it does require the driver to tackle rock, clay, sand and soil, plus navigate some steep climbs.

One of the toughest tracks in Australia is the Old Coach Rd in Cape York, which takes you over the Great Dividing Range. Much of the track throws up challenges, with steep ascents, ruts and large rocks. Careful navigation is required to make sure you make it through this one safely!

We recommend that you get a full service before setting out, making sure that all your nuts and bolts are up to the job, your engine oil is topped up and your battery is fully charged. Plus, get the pressure on your tyres checked so that they can give you their optimum performance!

It’s also important that your tyres are appropriate for the terrain. If you’re looking for durability and traction on any road then the Geolandar A/T G015 is your answer. Suitable for SUVs, 4WDs and Utes requiring durability, long tread life, off road traction, on road handling, low noise and a comfortable ride, this tyre’s wide and aggressive shoulder design means it will perform on any terrain.

However, if you’re contemplating something even more adventurous, we recommend the Geolandar M/T.  The Geolandar M/T+ is Yokohama's serious performer for serious off-road enthusiasts. This tyre is designed to conquer some of the wildest terrains; from muddy trails, rocky river beds to tropical jungles. It best suits the serious off-road enthusiasts that require extreme off-road appearance and traction.
