October 9, 2017 Yokohama Celebrates 100th Birthday

October is cause for applause at Yokohama Tyre Australia. It’s the 100th birthday of the Yokohama Rubber Company and the Australian arm of the iconic company is celebrating a century of cutting-edge technology by giving fans the chance to win $100,000!

Established in 1917 in Japan, the company produced its first tyre at its Yokohama Plant in 1930.

Yokohama Tyre Australia commenced trading in 1976 and in 2016 they celebrated forty years of success. They are now the Original Equipment supplier to over 20 vehicle manufacturers, boasting factory fitments on over 120 models in Australia.

The brand has forged a strong name both at home and globally. Yokohama is proud to be known as a trusted, premium tyre company across tyre categories – Racing, 4WD & Passenger.

Racing to Global Prominence

Yokohama’s high performance ADVAN tyres have become synonymous with racing success. The racing history of the company is rich with achievement. In 1983 they became the official supplier of tyres for the 1st Macau F3 Grand Prix. 1986 was another landmark year, as Yokohama won the Bathurst 1000 for the first time with the Alan Grice Commodore.

Another highlight was Team TASIAN winning its class on ADVAN tyres at the iconic 24 hour Le Mans race in 2000.

However, ADVAN’s arrival as a truly global flagship brand was complete in 2005, when the ADVAN Sport V103S was selected as original equipment for the Porsche 911 Carrera 4.

They are also a key part of one of racing’s most exciting annual events. The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) will take place in Sydney from 13th-14th October.

Tyres as Tough as They are Fast

Yokohama’s success in the 4WD arena has been just has been just as notable. In 1996 the company launched the Geolandar tyre for SUV & 4WD tyres. These tyres are designed to tackle a range of conditions head on and give drivers supreme confidence. The latest release Geolandar A/T G015 is Yokohama’s toughest tyre yet, and is a great off-road performer.

Fuel Efficiency Meets Safe & Confident Driving

Yokohama’s patented Orange Oil technology has seen them leave a strong imprint in the passenger tyre market.

2010 saw the launch of the BluEarth-AE01, the first offering in the BluEarth series of fuel efficient passenger tyres. These tyres offer great mileage combined with excellent wet weather grip and long-wear.

This unique Orange Oil technology is also harnessed in the BluEarth Es ES32 tyre and the BluEarth A AE50

Yokohama’s comprehensive range caters for all motorists – from everyday drivers with the BluEarth range to owners of high performance luxury cars that enjoy an optimal ride on the ADVAN Sport V105.

Worldwide Prominence

In 2015 Yokohama launched a partnership with Chelsea FC, bringing together two global organisations that take pride in performance and innovation.

To celebrate their 100th birthday, Yokohama is giving customers who have bought 4 Yokohama tyres the chance to win $100,000. There will also be chances to win and a host of fun activities in play at the Yokohama stand at the World Time Attack Challenge in October.
